White Avenue Santa

[Verse 1] Down at 844 White Avenue Red boots on the porch, he was leanin' cool Truck bed full of gifts and a bag too wide Round belly shakin' like a bassline ride I seen that beard in the cold moon glow White as chalk, man, movin' slow He tipped his hat, said, "Boy, don't stare" Then he laughed like thunder in the winter air [Pre-Chorus] Mama said, "Don't you ask no more" But I heard them sleigh bells by the screen door He said, "You been good? We'll see" Then he winked at me [Chorus] Santa at 844 Santa at 844 White Avenue, come on through Santa at 844 (White Avenue) (White Avenue) He's got the gifts and the midnight groove [Verse 2] He rolled in boots with a mud-cracked sole A candy cane stick and a heavy gold roll Kids in the yard all hollerin' loud He tossed one sack like a summer crowd Mrs. Claus in the cab, grinnin' wide Hot cocoa steam and a pie inside He said, "Hop on in if you need a lift" Then he blessed that town with a backseat gift [Pre-Chorus] I heard the dog bark once, then still He was gone like smoke past the hill But the candy on my tongue said it all He made that night stand tall [Chorus] Santa at 844 Santa at 844 White Avenue, come on through Santa at 844 (White Avenue) (White Avenue) He's got the gifts and the midnight groove [Bridge] If you need hope, go knock that door If you need joy, he'll give you more I saw that red truck fade from sight But White Avenue shone all night [Final Chorus] Santa at 844 Santa at 844 White Avenue, come on through Santa at 844 (White Avenue) (White Avenue) He left that whole street better than before
